How to Write Self-Assessment

Legacy draft imported from the previous arieare.co build.

This was originally posted as a short thread and converted into a longer written format.

1. Give insight into your success

Describe what you delivered and what business impact it had.

Focus on highest-impact outcomes, including cross-functional or cultural impact.

2. Show strengths and weaknesses with examples

Be specific about what you contributed and where you underperformed.

3. Ask for feedback

Collect peer/stakeholder proof points so your manager has broader context.

Use STAR framing

Structure your assessment with clear context, actions, and outcomes so the narrative is easy to evaluate.

Follow through on previous review gaps

Demonstrate growth on commitments from the last review cycle.

Promotion angle

Map your work directly to the target level. Keep an ongoing accomplishments log so your manager can advocate for you clearly.
